After completing his higher secondary studies, Amitava moved to Sonarpur and started working for an international catering service. After about six years there, he left and joined Merlin Ibiza, a club, as a bartender. At the time, he would barely make ₹600–700 a day.

He lives with his wife, son and mother. His wife is post-graduate and a housewife, while their 7-year-old son studies at DPS Kamalgachi.

Upon joining IdlyGo, initially he was worried if he would be able to sell even 100 plates a day. Quite the contrary, Amitava has become a Star Seller; from his cart in front of Medical College, he averages a daily sale count of 300 plates!

His success may be attributed to his interpersonal skills and quick attention to body language. According to Amitava, these are absolutely vital to for a successful vendor. Owing to his personable manner and efficient service, he now earns about ₹30,000 every month from IdlyGo!

Naturally, this has eased financial troubles for him and his family, who are equally proud of him.

Amitava says that once one of IdlyGo’s Directors wished him luck with ₹201. He didn’t spend that money. Instead, he laminated it and placed it in his prayer room as a reminder of the motivational power of blessings. Having just completed nine months with the IdlyGo team, he ascribes his personal growth to the growth of the Company, stating that he is determined to maintain his record for selling his full cart every day.
